Walter Presents will roll out in Australia next month, launching on the Foxtel pay TV platform. The launch line-up includes Spanish prison drama “Locked Up,” Brazilian serial killer thriller “Merciless” and French noir “Vanished by the Lake.”
Australian viewers will be able to binge upon non-English-language drama from November 1 when the service launches. As well as the on-demand The Foxtel pay TV linear channel Showcase will have a weekly slot to show some of the series added to the service.
The on-demand and linear mix is the same as in the U.K., where Walter Presents launched. It is backed by British broadcaster Channel 4. It has already launched in the U.S. and there are plans for further international launches after Australia.
On Foxtel there will be over 150 hours of foreign language drama added in year one, sourced from around the world. HBO Latin America’s “Fugitives,” Mexican crime saga “Mr Avila,” and Belgian thriller “13 Commandments,” will soon join the line-up.
Walter Iuzzolino is the co-founder of Walter Presents and selects and introduces the series on the service. “Australian audiences are some of the most forward thinking and sophisticated in the world,” said Iuzzolino.
“They have a hunger for compelling, quality international drama as demonstrated by the success of Nordic Noir here and we are thrilled to be able to broaden the scope and palette of the international drama offerings further with additions from countries as diverse as Mexico, Holland, Chile, Spain and Belgium.”
Foxtel director of content Ross Crowley said: “In teaming with master curator Walter Iuzzolino, we’re genuinely excited to bring some of the boldest, most exciting, premium dramas from around the world to our On Demand catalog.”
