Year to date, the security appliance market has experienced a 11 percent dollar and 12 percent unit sales growth in the U.S. B2B Indirect Channel compared to the same period year ago, according to The NPD Group’s Distributor Track and Commercial Reseller Tracking Service. Comparatively, revenue for the total U.S. B2B hardware market has grown six percent in the same channel over the time period.
While large businesses have historically been the target of cyber-attacks, small and medium businesses (SMBs) are more frequently being targeted, which is why they have become an important driver of recent growth in the market. Security appliances, such as next generation firewalls that have increased functionality, are increasingly being implemented by SMBs to protect their business. Additionally, channel partners, such as IT distributors, are contributing to growth in this segment as they educate and train solution providers on the technologies and explore opportunities in key vertical markets. Year to date (through August), the following brands are leading the security appliance market in unit sales in the U.S. B2B Indirect Channel: Cisco, SonicWall, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, and WatchGuard Technologies.
