Led by medalist Dallas Koth, University High School’s boys golf team rolled to the Central State Eight Conference Tournament championship on Thursday at Bunn Golf Course in Springfield.
Koth, a senior, shot 73 to lead the Pioneers to a 300 total, good for a 29-stroke victory over Springfield. Chatham Glenwood and Rochester tied for third at 330.
Koth took the individual title by one shot over Aydin Folker of Jacksonville. U High’s Ben Bazan and Tony Palumbo were next at 75, while the Pioneers’ Alex Kullman (77), Brevin Knight (77) and Ethan Huynh (78) also finished in the top 10.
U High triumphs: Two goals by Cayden Redd sparked University High (14-3) to a 3-0 victory over St. Viator in the Burlington (Iowa) Fall Classic.
Nate Clay chipped in a goal and two assists while J.D. Kelley also had an assist. The Pioneers will face Quincy Notre Dame (14-3) in Friday’s 11:45 a.m. semifinals.
NCHS wins shutout: Austin Woodside made six saves to help Normal Community blank host Champaign Central, 5-0.
Scoring for the Ironmen (10-3-2, 6-0-1) were Griffin Bruso, Ethan Holland, Nick Leming, Carson Oltman and Jordan Chamukenge. Josef Halcomb had two assists while Michael Reibling, Josue Nsukami and Robert Harris had one apiece.
Champaign Central fell to 6-10 and 3-4.
BHS blanks Peoria: Five players scored as Bloomington (3-11-1, 2-4-1) won, 5-0, over visiting Big 12 Conference foe Peoria High.
Djibril Thiam and Blake Sedbrook each had one goal and one assist while Ryan Flynn had two assists. Also scoring were Jacob Marshall, Nick Fairley and Justin Turner. Also providing an assist was Noah Masemore. Goalie Xander Bosquez had three saves.
Kazigwa, Central win: Freshman Mael Kazigwa’s goal off an assist from Kyle Vroman with 10 minutes left in the first half made host Central Catholic a 1-0 winner over St. Joseph-Ogden.
