What’s coming to Video-on-Demand in October 2017.
The summer hits continue to roll out on VOD in October, with “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” the third big-screen reboot of the wall-crawling hero and the first to invite him into the Marvel Comics Universe, and “War for the Planet of the Apes,” the acclaimed third film in the series.
They top a list that includes the high-energy “Baby Driver,” a crime thriller with fast getaways and a musical beat; “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” with Johnny Depp returning as Captain Jack Sparrow; and the comedy “Girls Trip,” starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Also arriving in October: Sofia Coppola’s award-winning remake of “The Beguiled” with Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst; the independent drama “A Ghost Story” with Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara; the Canadian drama “Maudie” with Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke; and the documentary “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” with Al Gore.
Video-on-Demand, what used to be known as pay-per-view, is essentially a streaming rental service and has become one of the most popular home-viewing choices for new movies. It is available through most digital cable and satellite systems. Most titles are also available through web-based VOD services like iTunes, Amazon Video, Vudu, Fandango and Google Play.
