With Labor Day just around the corner, the long weekend is booming with activities, offering the perfect excuse to enjoy a day off.
Those seeking top notch music performances, arts and crafts, folk dancing or something to do with the kids, venture very far âÂ thereâs plenty going on that will keep you in Haywood County all weekend.
Perhaps the biggest Labor Day celebration will take place in Sorrells Street Park in Canton on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 3-4. The celebration will feature a plethora of music, food, vendors to pack the weekend with fun.Â
Canton Executive Assistant/Deputy Clerk Lisa Stinnett, who played a heavy role in planning the festival, said she expects the event to draw a larger crowd than last yearâs.
The last couple years, out-of-towners have been drawn to the festival by its dynamite music lineup.Â
This year’s headliners include Joe Lasher Jr. (6:30 p.m.) and Sam Bush (8 p.m.) performing on Sunday, Sept. 3 at Sorrells Street Park. The following day, headliners Balsam Range (5:45 p.m.) and Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder will wrap up the festival with a final show at 7:30 p.m.
âSomeone from England who was visiting the Biltmore last year saw a flyer for the concert, came to Canton and loved the festival,â Stinnett said.
For those who will be bringing the kids to Canton, Papertown Kids Village is the perfect area for them to play â featuring six large inflatable toys, a magician, multiple face painters and a climbing wall.Â
âItâs a great place where parents can watch their kids play while also listening to some great live music,â Stinnett said.Â
