A number of students from Lucknow’s Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) have “gate-crashed” their way to postgraduation courses at IITs and equivalent colleges by scoring top marks in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2017.

GATE is conducted by the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and the Indian Institue of Technology and its scores are used for admission to MTech and PhD programmes in IITs, IISc and various other institutes.

“Around 20 students have ranked within the top 100. We have top scorers as well those who figure in the top five all-India ranks. The institute provided the students with adequate facilities, and the students, in turn, showed that through their results,” AS Vidyarthi, director of the state government-funded engineering college, said.

Among the top scorers from the institute are Monti Agarwal, a final-year student who secured all-India fourth rank, Vipin Shukla who stood 18th, Ashish Chaudhry who bagged the 19th rank and Abhishek Bharatdwaj who secured the 20th position.
