This is from the Daily Express’s Brussels correspondent Nick Gutteridge.
Here is my colleague Jessica Elgot’s story about the press conference.
The former prime minister Tony Blair had a meeting with Jean-Claude Juncker, the European commission president, in Brussels today. Given that Blair has made no secret of the fact that he would like to kibosh Brexit altogether, the scheduling of the meeting has led to speculation by Brexiteers that is he up to something.
But the commission has issued a statement about the meeting suggesting that Brexit was not at the top of the agenda. The two met because they have “known each other for long time since they served simultaneously as heads of government of their respective countries during 10 years, the entire length of Blair’s time as prime minister”, the commission said.
It said the two men “exchanged views on a wide number of issues of European and international interest, from the state of the European economy to international trade, to the situation in the Middle East and North Africa – which Blair knows well as former special envoy of the Middle East Quartet – and the future of the European Union.”
EU officials were briefing journalists after the press conference. Here are some of the tweets from journalists about what was being said.
