Nelson Drum Co. will join longstanding business Drum Supply House
An Oct. 5 opening is targeted for what will be the Davidson County’s second percussion instrument-focused retail business.
To be located at 730 McFerrin Ave. in East Nashville’s Maxwell Neighbors district, Nelson Drum Co. will be a companion business to Andy Foote’s Drum Supply House. The latter, which specializes in percussion repair, custom drums and parts/supplies, has operated from the building since 2007. However, Foote said that, with the new arrangement, Drum Supply House will for the first time offer a conventional retail presence.
Nelson Drum Co. will offer primarily used vintage drums supplemented by some new boutique instruments, said Foote, who previously operated Drum Supply House from the Germantown building now home to Barista Parlor.
Of note, Bryson Nelson owns and operates Nelson Drum Co. in Franklin. However, that home-based business has not been open to the general public.
“We’ve worked hard to curate both businesses, as our space is cozy,” Foote said.
Specifically, Nelson Drum Co. will operate from subleased space shared with Drum Supply House. On an adjacent site sits the building home to Mas Tacos Por Favor.
Foote said the arrangement will give both Nelson Drum Co. and Drum Supply House a boost in visibility. Though owned separately, the businesses will enjoy a symbiotic relationship, he said.
“To date, we’ve kept our operation at this location a bit under the radar,” he said. “So over the past 21 years, our business has been sustained primarily by web orders and local shop visits being generated based more on word of mouth and out-of-town customers passing through the area to pick up projects started online.
“The location has been largely a non-factor until now,” he added….
