Beaver Dam soccer park kicks its way on to the Common Council | Regional news

Beaver Dam Youth Soccer Club is getting closer to developing a 22-acre soccer complex on the north end of Beaver Dam after a recommendation from the Plan Commission Wednesday.

“It seems to be a good partnership and the club is very excited,” Jim Jensen said.

The proposed park would be located between Highway 151 and Distribution Way. It is land near the Wal-Mart Distribution Center.

The concept plans show eight soccer fields, a walking track around all the fields, concession stands, restrooms, pavilion, retention pond and trees planted along the side that faces Highway 151. Jensen said features such as the walking path and playground equipment are long term goals for the club.

The commission recommended naming the soccer complex the Beaver Dam Soccer Park. The memorandum of understanding requires Beaver Dam Youth Soccer Club to design, develop and maintain the area.

Dave Elgersma, Beaver Dam High School head soccer coach, said that they have been fundraising for six years and have $40,000 set aside.

According to a petition submitted to Operations Committee, sewer and water lines already exist on the property.

Elgersma said iat a November Operations Committee meeting that the park could serve 30-team tournaments, which could bring in about 900 people to Beaver Dam.

He said the park would be a hub for soccer players of all ages to learn and watch soccer.

“Those young kids can see what they can develop into,” Elgersma said.
