Althea Johnson Agency, a full-service insurance and financial services firm, reveals another remarkable charity campaign in their effort to support local families with a community enrichment program serving the greater Long Island area. The latest initiative supports John Theissen Children’s Foundation, which does much for New York’s unsupported and underprivileged sick children. In addition to donating therapeutic and recreational equipment to local hospitals and care centers, JCTF also provides financial assistance to help families with medical expenses. But most often, they fulfill childhood wishes with their annual toy drive.
The foundation was inspired when John was hospitalized at 17 years old with a brain tumor. He befriended a little girl who was completely unsupported by her family throughout her numerous hospital stays, yet, when the hospital’s Santa asked her what she wanted for Christmas, she said she wanted a teddy bear to give to her friend. Her generosity of spirit inspired John to reach out to other children in need of kindness. Since 1992, JCTF has collected over 920,000 new toys which have been gifted to sick and underprivileged children in hospitals and child care facilities throughout the holiday season, and even throughout the year. Because sometimes, a smile is the best medicine.
