Students are eager to have such an important competition right here in Atlanta

World Robot Olympiad USA today announced that it has selected 21st Century STEM Academy (21C), a STEM-focused micro-school located in Decatur, Ga., to host its Southeast regional competition in July, 2017.

Now in its fourth year in the United States, WRO-USA seeks to drive greater science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) interest among youth across the country. WRO-USA is a rapidly growing competition, with plans to expand to over 300 teams across at least 15 states in 2017, culminating in the National Championship at North Carolina State University, and ultimately, the World Robot Olympiad finals scheduled for late 2017 in Costa Rica. The World Robot Olympiad is a global robotics competition that unites young people in STEM from across the globe, with more than 55 participating countries and nearly 20,000 teams worldwide.

“Having been involved with World Robot Olympiad since its inception in the United States, I am honored to grow our presence through strong partners like 21C,” said William Wong, national organizer of WRO-USA. “Through its competitions, WRO brings children from different backgrounds together to discover their passion, and I look forward to bringing that to children in the Atlanta area.”

Glenn Delk, co-founder of 21C in Atlanta, said that having the WRO regional at 21C would raise the profile of STEM learning. “Students are eager to have such an important competition right here in Atlanta,” Delk said. “They are eager to show off their robotic competitive skills just as they would any sporting competition.”
