BBC building show DIY SOS, headed up by presenter Nick Knowleshas, has launched an appeal to adapt Kris’ north London home so he can return home

The dad of two was walking home from a commendation ceremony when he was hit by a car driven into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge.

PC Aves took the full force of the collision — suffering broken legs as well as head, chest and arm injuries plus devastating damage to his spinal cord.

He is undergoing daily rehab but cannot leave Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury, Bucks, because his home is not suitable for the wheelchair he now needs.

BBC building show DIY SOS has launched an appeal to adapt it so he can return to his partner Marissa and their six-year-old son and daughter, four.

Volunteer builders and workmen are needed next month to help transform the home in East Barnet, North London.

The show, hosted by Nick Knowles, said the property “needs considerable adaptations throughout and a through floor lift before Kris can return to his loving family”.

PC Aves, a family liaison officer, said he was “very grateful” for their help.

He added: “I am looking forward to going home.

I am still coming to terms with my injuries, as are my family.”

Jihadist Khalid Masood, 52, killed four pedestrians and injured dozens before leaping out of his car and stabbing to death PC Keith Palmer. He was shot dead.
