If you were Eliza Wilson this was the result you wouldn’t want to see.

The ex-MasterChef contestant was kicked off the show in what had to be one of the closest elimination challenges so far this season, after Sarah Tiong played her immunity pin which sent Eliza into the challenge in Sarah’s stead.

Like barracking during the footy finals, if your team goes down at least make it to the premiership team. But that wasn’t to be on MasterChef during Finals Week.

Sarah was again faced with elimination after her licorice dish failed to impress the judges (Arum Nixon cooked a better version of a licorice-laced steak than Sarah) on Sunday night, and she had to face off against Diana Chan and Karlie Verkerk.

The pressure test was Shaun Quade’s ‘Pearl on the Ocean Floor’, a seafood dish from South Melbourne’s Lume restaurant.

Sarah’s cook slowly fell apart starting with her ice cream colour, followed by a cracked pearl and ending in a lack of mussel foam. “I don’t have the foam to plate George,” Sarah said during plating and you could almost hear her screaming the words in her head at judge George Calombaris.

She wasn’t the only one to suffer setbacks but judging by the sweat on her brow, she had the most work cut out for her.

“Sarah has really pulled everything out of the bag in this final minute but I’m not sure it’s going to be enough,” Tamara Graffen tells viewers from the safety of the gantry.

Karlie’s finesse for detail set her ahead of Sarah but also Diana, who was reduced to tears by the end of the cook because of concrete marmalade: “I’m not going to serve the judges something that’s not right.”
