Vinod Khanna Death of a Bollywood Legend

 

It was a sad day on April 27, 2017 as news filtered through of the death of one of Bollywood’s biggest icons of yesteryear. His name was Vinod Khanna.

Known to many as an extremely talented and handsome individual who commanded the silver screen with his star presence and was second in popularity only to the Superstar himself Amitabh Bachchan.

Born in October 1946 into a middle class family Mr Khanna had what you might called a charmed upbringing where he was well educated and was financially secure thanks to his parents hard work and planning.

Once he had graduated from University with a Commerce Degree he was drawn to Cinema after watching various epic movies of the 1950s and 1960s.

Standing at six feet tall and looking every inch like a Greek god, he certainly had the height, the looks and the magnetic personality to be a box office sensation, all he needed now was a chance to prove himself.

He was spotted by Sunil Dutt a veteran actor who was looking for raw and exciting talent to debut in his upcoming film and Mr Khanna fitted the role like a hand into a glove.

Movie career

He made his acting debut in 1968 and never looked back, he managed to go from strength to strength over the next 15 years producing hit after hit.

Mr Khanna starred in many movies alongside another Bollywood Icon Amitabh Bachchan and there chemistry on the silver screen was intoxicating.

Two notable films they starred in were Amar Akbar Anthony and Muqaddar Ka Sikander.

Both movies were massive blockbuster hits and have become cult films to watch for all generations.

Amar Akbar Anthony and Muqaddar Ka Sikander were so successful they became the highest grossing Indian movies worldwide for the year 1977 and 1978 respectively.

The film Muqaddar Ka Sikander in particular is a wonderfully inspiring film that shows many facets of human relationships and tragedy.
