The owner of Blu Mist Restaurant and Bar, a new Asian fusion eatery near Valley River Center in Eugene, is telling his employees to be patient.
The restaurant is attempting to secure a place among Eugene’s upscale eating establishments by serving creative food and drinks in an attractive dining room and bar furnished with reclaimed wood. Blu Mist opened on May 1, in a new building on the corner formerly occupied by a Marie Callender’s restaurant.
The restaurant, which cost about $1 million to plan, build and equip, is open until midnight, well past when most restaurants close.
“I just didn’t want to make new dishes,” said owner Arna Khongkhaning (pronounced, “cone-con-ning). “I wanted to make the whole experience new and special.”
Khongkhaning said some of his employees are eager for Blu Mist to get busier.
But, he said, he’s pleased with business so far. It takes awhile for word to spread about a new restaurant, Khongkhaning said.
“I told my staff, ‘Calm down, be patient,’ ” he said. “Being consistent is the key.”
