1. Vatican City
Situated within Rome itself, Vatican City is often recognised as the smallest state in the world – and also the home of the Pope.
It’s a must-visit for art and culture lovers, as it’s also host to world-famous pieces including Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, not to mention there’s also the iconic St Peter’s Square with its towering colonnades and jaw-dropping obelisk.
