It’s game day. We made it.
Will be updating this once I get to the stadium, with photos, videos and other pregame notes. Before I venture north to Hard Rock Stadium from Canes Watch HQ, a few links and notes to get you ready …
Two preview pieces to get you ready: A look at five players under pressure (pressure being a relative term for a game against an FCS team) and 10 numbers of note. Also, we’ve got features on UM’s ‘86 Gang‘ defense and the new quarterback (did you hear Miami has a new quarterback?)
Good times. Glad you’re all here.
Hot day today. The type of day Miami hopes will be an advantage from a conditioning standpoint; they’ve practiced in the South Florida heat all summer. Of course, it’s something of a wash against another Florida school (and not exactly needed, given the disparity between today’s combatants). This might be the last “heat advantage” game for the Hurricanes; they’re on the road three of the next four weeks, and if Toledo (Sept. 23) is an afternoon or night game, UM won’t have a potential early game until Oct. 21 vs. Syracuse.
Anyway: Today’s forecast for Miami Gardens is mostly cloudy until noon, then isolated thunderstorms until 2, then scattered thunderstorms until 6. The projected temperature at kickoff is 87, with a “feels like” temperature around 97. Winds out of the southeast at 8-9 mph. Hot day.
As I leave home (about 10 minutes south of UM), it’s pouring and thunder rumbles in the distance.
