Mariners pitchers struggle in rain-shortened trouncing by the Royals

The Mariners suffered their first loss of the spring, getting trounced at home in a seven-inning, rain-shortened 14-3 decision to the Royals.

A pair of veteran pitchers acquired in the offseason for key roles struggled in their first Cactus League appearances. Mariners starter Yovani Gallardo gave up four runs on three hits with two walks, a hit batter and a wild pitch in his first and only inning of work. With one out, Gallardo hit Paulo Orlando with a 1-2 pitch that started all of his problems. He walked Lorenzo Cain and then gave up back-to-back doubles to Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez and a single to Brandon Moss to that drove in the runs.
