The College Tour provides an authentic and powerful forum for students to talk about mental and emotional issues and to discover they are not alone.

I Am Acceptance (http://www.iamacceptance.org), a non-profit organization formed to raise awareness about mental health, today announced a new Fall College tour to end student suicide, decrease stigma, promote mental wellness and empower students to take full control of their lives.
The Tour, expected to visit 25 locations, partners with colleges and universities to promote mental health and decrease stigma. Last year, the 2016 Tour visited multiple locations in Alabama, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts and Washington.
Hakeem Rahim, President of I Am Acceptance, said, “The College Tour provides an authentic and powerful forum for students to talk about mental and emotional issues and to discover they are not alone. We must address formerly taboo issues, such as student suicides, because only by discussing them can we take the first step at prevention.”
The College Tour encourages students to take full control of their mental wellness by promoting three key messages: 1) It’s okay to talk about what you are going through, 2) There’s no shame in seeking help, and 3) There is hope if you are diagnosed with a mental illness.
According to Mr. Rahim, the latest statistics on students’ mental health indicate a growing problem. Each year, three out of four college students report experiencing a mental health crisis on campus. However, only 40 percent seek care, and 1,100 students commit suicide every year.
Mr. Rahim concluded, “The College Tour plays an essential role in addressing the warning signs students frequently miss while coping with stress and anxiety. The mental health conversation must no longer be an after-thought; it is literally an issue of life and death for students, parents and faculty alike.”
