It wouldn’t be Game of Thrones without someone spending an extended period of time in a jail cell. This time it’s Ellaria Sand. Also, did Cersei poison Jaime? After Euron Greyjoy brought his Dornish prisoners to King’s Landing, Cersei killed Tyene in front of Ellaria on Game of Thrones, but the sand snake is not dead yet. That would be too simple for the Evil Queen.
Honestly, just having to face The Mountain again was punishment enough for Oberyn’s lover, but that was only part of Cersei’s plan. The Lannister monarch had her pal Qyburn mix up the same poison that Ellaria used on Myrcella Baratheon. It’s slow-acting, but activated or quickened by your heart rate if I remember correctly from seasons past — which is both a blessing and a curse. Ellaria has to wait and watch her daughter die at an unspecified time.
Cersei took the antidote, and then went right to smooching her brother without even passing GO and collecting 200 gold coin. I wish she’d been a little more careful. I think the activity he sustained over the rest of the episode should prove that Jaime wasn’t poisoned, but still. Cersei may be high on power right now and feeling reckless, but let’s not endanger Jaime in the process.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Ellaria Sand after Myrcella’s death, to be frank. I much prefer Ariane Martell’s storyline from the books, and I’m ready to be done with the Sand Snakes on the HBO series. That said, this revenge plot opens up some interesting possibilities for the future.
How long will Cersei let Ellaria live after Tyene bites the dust? Surely this isn’t the last we’re going to see of her on Game of Thrones. As for the Queen, will she marry Euron Greyjoy now for real? Is poisoning gonna be her signature move, now? Who will she go after next? Things are really starting to move, and I’m officially never leaving the edge of my seat now.
