Casino’s 80th anniversary events
The Casino San Clemente ballroom invites the community to a pair of events this weekend to celebrate the landmark’s 80th birthday.
From 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 29, the Casino will host a family-friendly open house, with no admission charge. The big-band sounds of Pete Jacobs and his band will fill the ballroom, recalling the vibe that might have reverberated in 1937 when the Casino opened, designed to turn San Clemente into a Southern California entertainment venue during the Great Depression.
For children there will be a petting zoo, face painting, a movie, popcorn and art. The Casino will offer $10 dinner plates, a cash bar, free sodas, ice cream and anniversary cup cakes, plus a photo booth.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, July 30, Tim Gill will entertain in the Casino’s ocean-view West Wing for a Jazz Brunch. Tickets are $25. Visit brownpapertickets.com and type in Jazz Brunch for Casino’s 80th birthday.
